My thoughts:
Nothing Is Strange by Mike Russell is a book full of inspiring, otherworldly, magical, bizarre and very unique short stories. I really enjoyed reading this, I finished it in an hour 😀 Many of the stories are very strange but I did enjoy a couple of them. My favourite stories were titled The Diaries of Sun City and The Shining Flower.
I absolutely loved The Diaries of Sun City! It features a person who lives in Sun City. A concrete city with no way to reach the outside world: which is said to be uninhabitable. This person has feelings for a Miss Baraclough and that if they were to announce their feelings that it would be deemed inappropriate. They decide to purchase a diary and begin writing in it everyday, and each day the previous page’s ink disappears. Thinking that their memories are playing tricks on them they count every page in their 365 page diary to find the pages are actually missing. As each day passes they begin to wonder where the pages are going, who they are writing to and what lies beyond the concrete wall that surrounds their city.
This person begins to chisel their way through the wall of their apartment. When they reach the other side, they are surrounded by pages and pages covered in different writing styles and begin to wade through them towards a throne. But they are not alone here. They are surrounded by other people all heading in the same direction, finally free of the city’s confinement.
I really loved this story 😀 It showed that you shouldn’t fear expressing your feelings and speak your mind no matter what, and to break free of whatever it is holding us back and just do it! I hope you all enjoyed my review! Have you guys read Nothing Is Strange? I would absolutely recommend that you do! Let me know what you thought of it in the comments 😀 Bye guys, happy reading! x
