First Line Friday

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines? I saw this over on The Anatomy of a Bookworm but it was originally hosted by Wandering Words. I’m really excited to share my chosen book for this week. I picked up this book while I was at YALC and it sounds like an interesting read 😀

Rules:
> Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
> Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
> Finally… reveal the book!

And now for the first lines:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once upon a time, a little girl helplessly watched as liquid gold spun a web across her tiny frame, racing to wrap her up in an icy cocoon.
Can you guess what book this is from?
A Touch of Gold by Annie Sullivan. King Midas once had the power to turn everything he touched into gold. But after his gift – or curse – almost killed his daughter, Midas relinquished The Touch forever. Ten years on, Princess Kora still bears the consequences of that day: her skin shines gold, rumors follow her everywhere, and she has secret powers that are getting harder to hide. Kora spends her days hidden in the palace, concealed behind gloves and veils, trying to ignore the whispers and stares of the courtiers. It isn’t until a charming young duke arrives that Kora realizes there may be someone out there who doesn’t fear her or her curse – and that she could indeed be loved. But their courtship is interrupted when a thief steals precious treasure the king needs to survive. Thanks to her unique ability to sense gold, Kora is the only one who can track the thief down. As she sails off on her quest, Kora learns that not everything is what it seems—not thieves, not pirates, and not even curses. She quickly discovers that gold—and the power it brings—is more dangerous than she’d ever believed.
Did anyone guess what book it was? 😀 This book sounds really good, and I can’t wait to read it ❤ Have you read A Touch of Gold? Let me know what you thought of it in the comments. Hope you all enjoyed! Bye guys, happy reading! xx
