Illumicrate Unboxing – August 2019

Hey everyone! How’s it going? ❤ It’s time for this month’s Illumicrate unboxing! The theme for this month was ‘Armed And Dangerous’ and included items inspired by blade-wielders, potion-masters and all things dangerous. The book included this month is perfectly suited for this theme and I’m so excited to read it ❤

This gorgeous mug is inspired by A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab. Featuring Kell and Lila on their trip to Red London. Absolutely love this design by @rosiethorns88 ❤

This soap smells amazing! It smells exactly like fresh apples ❤ Inspired by Red Sister by Mark Lawrence. Crafted by @hellolovelyskincare.

This Scythe themed bottle opener is so gorgeous! It features the quote: “Never lose your humanity” and was designed by @dustandpages 😀

This cute little wand insignia bag was designed by @chattynora. Unfortunately it’s a little on the small side and the strap is very short for practical use.

Illumicrate included a cutlery set in this month’s box. The design by @heyatlascreative is inspired by The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare ❤ I love the design featured on the box however the cutlery is very plain. I wish they had been engraved with a quote or design from The Dark Artifices.

Illumicrate’s book of the month for August was Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir which follows Gideon, brought up by unfriendly nuns, ancient retainers and countless skeletons, she is ready to give up a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse. However, her childhood nemesis has other ideas and won’t set her free without a service. With her escape plan thwarted, she is summoned into action. The Emperor has invited the heirs of each of the nine houses loyal to him to enter a deadly trial of wits and skill. Harrowhawk, Daughter of the Ninth House, a bone witch with extraordinary powers is one of those invited to enter the trial. If she succeeds she will become an immortal, all-powerful servant of the Resurrection, however no necromancer can ascend without their cavalier. That’s where Gideon comes in. Harrow needs Gideon’s sword, or else she will fail the trial and the Ninth House will die. Of course, some things are better left dead. This edition of Gideon the Ninth features an exclusively designed page signed by the author and black sprayed edges.
